I remember back in 2003 when I first saw the video for “Somewhere Only We Know,” and to be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of that song. It was just too sad. In fact I thought all of their songs were depressing but I grew to like a few…and after a couple of years (!!) I dug deeper and found that they have those energetic tunes that I enjoy. Keane has a good mixture of slow, beautiful songs and loud, sing-a-long songs. That’s one reason why I adore this band, for their balance.

Another reason is because they’re English (and I’ve been to England, ok, only London), and their music makes me remember that time.

Oh, and you can’t go wrong with the lead singer. His vocals are incredible. So soothing and perfect with every song.

I pose this question: Is the excuse “I have too much work to do” a valid reason to cancel out on something? The person will only be away from their work for at least half an hour and the work isn’t magically going to start piling up. Am I wrong? Is that a valid excuse?

A friend of mine called me this morning on the day of our lunch date to cancel because of that particular reason stated above. Hey, I got a lot of work too but I extended an invite to lunch YESTERDAY (and she said yes). What irritated me wasn’t the fact that she canceled at the last minute, but because for a few days now she’s been behind in chemistry, and she knows that she needs to catch up. We both knew this and it was pretty obvious. What irked me even moreso was that she made a commitment that she knew she couldn’t keep, and I could tell that she wanted to say no because she was kind of hesitant but didn’t want to flat out reject me. The “I have too much work” excuse would’ve worked if she had just told me no when she had the opportunity to do so and I would’ve understood.

I told her this, in a voicemail.

Now, I’m not the kind of person who gets mad over little things, but I couldn’t brush this off so easily. Am I not alone?

(By the way, I am over this). I just want opinions.

I also hoped for a good grade on the Spanish test.

This just adds to the list of things that I thought I was so prepared for because I busted my butt to get everything into my brain for days leading up to the big showdown. Included in this list is me not getting hired for a job, which didn’t see me to my full potential after just one meeting with the head of the department.

Isn’t it a horrible feeling when you know that you’re going to ace a test or exam, or get that job, only to find out that you didn’t do too well (I’m talking about getting a C…or even a D), and got rejected? You know that you put so much hard work and effort into preparing for the big day that it all backfires, and so you think that no matter how hard you prepare for the next test it won’t be worth anything?

Two days in a row this happened for me. It’s sick.

So for all of your hard efforts wasted (and mine, for now), did we recieve the outcomes we did because we were overly confident or were we just not fully prepared as we thought?

The cookies looked really tasty so that’s the one that I’m going to attempt to make.

But I want to go someplace else. New York comes to mind. In fact, I already have the university I want to attend.

Bringing this up to my parents last night resulted in an hour lecture, the main issue was me not being as independent as I should be. Yes, I drive myself to and from school everyday, and I don’t need to be around people all the time. But doing household chores is virtually nonexistant.

It’s true that I have been babied a little at home, and my dad told me that it was his and Mom’s fault. I am an only child as well.

So today I ironed clothes. Took me about an hour and a half but I did it! I’m taking things in baby steps, as I told Mom.

And I told her I’d just apply to the university I’m interested in and see what happens. If I don’t get in, it’s not the end of the world. At least I’ll still be enrolled at the local university.

Now, if I do get accepted, that’s a different story.

All in all I feel good. It feels nice to do things, knowing that I’m not going to be babied anymore.

This will be the place where I will update you all about my life, and post thoughts. I do better typing (or writing) my emotions and communicating then speaking out loud. (I’m working on the speaking part).

Note: I decided to start another new blog after watching Julie & Julia last night (if you’ve seen the movie, there is a blog involved). Besides making me want to start blogging for the billionth time, I also got really hungry from seeing all of the good food on screen.
